Mae's Meat Market and Café

From Butcher's Dream to Small-Town Success -- Mae's Meat Market and Cafe

EASTLAND, TX – Tucked just off the main road in Eastland, Texas, Mae’s Meat Market & Café isn’t your average eatery. It’s a place where family roots, quality craftsmanship, and hometown flavor come together under one roof. What began in 2014 as a heartfelt tribute from siblings Kevin and Kay Plowman to their adopted mother, Mae, has now entered an exciting new chapter under the leadership of local butcher and entrepreneur, Jimmy Pitzer.

Jimmy, an experienced butcher, had long dreamed of owning a business where he could pair his passion for fresh, high-quality meats with homestyle, handmade meals. That vision became a reality in May 2024, when, with the help of the Tarleton State University Small Business Development Center, he officially acquired Mae’s Meat Market & Café.

From Planning to Purchase

Jimmy worked closely with the TSU SBDC team to develop a comprehensive business plan, detailed financial projections, and a clear roadmap for growth. This strategic support was instrumental in securing the financing he needed to purchase the business and transition into ownership with confidence.

A Farm-to-Table Favorite in Eastland

Mae’s has always stood out for its dual identity: a full-service butcher shop and a cozy café, where the meat used in every dish is cut and prepared just steps away from the kitchen. From handmade burgers to crispy steak fingers, everything on the menu reflects a commitment to freshness, quality, and authenticity.

Jimmy has stayed true to that legacy, doubling down on a farm-to-table approach and building a menu that celebrates the craft of butchery and the comfort of home cooking. Even though the café sits just a block off Eastland’s main road, it has earned a loyal following and continues to attract new fans. In addition, it has been featured on local TV shows like “The Texas Bucket List” and “The Daytripper,” both of which have showcased its Texas charm.

The Future Looks Bright

In just his first year of ownership, Jimmy’s hard work and his focus on quality has paid off in a big way. With strong community support and smart business management, Mae’s Meat Market & Café surpassed its original gross income projections by nearly $500,000.

As Mae’s continues to grow, Jimmy remains focused on the values that made the business special in the first place: local roots, honest food, and strong community ties.

Congratulations to Jimmy and the entire team at Mae’s Meat Market & Café. Your success is a powerful reminder of what happens when passion meets preparation and when local businesses are supported by the right resources at the right time
