Granbury Welcomes a Taste of the Emerald Isle with The Pub McDonough

 

GRANBURY, TX – Just over one year ago, Granbury welcomed a unique addition to its culinary landscape with the opening of The Pub McDonough, an authentic Irish pub that offers a warm, inviting atmosphere and a delicious array of food and beverages. More than just a place to grab a pint, The Pub McDonough aims to be a true community hub, mirroring the beloved pubs found across Ireland.

 

A Dream Rooted in Heritage and Hometown Love

The Pub McDonough is the passion project of Kevin and Mary McDonough, a couple with deep ties to both Ireland and Granbury. Kevin's great-grandparents emigrated from Galway, Ireland, to Boston in 1892, instilling in him a strong connection to his Irish roots. While Mary's Irish heritage is a bit more modest, their shared love for Irish culture and a desire to bring a piece of the Emerald Isle to their beloved hometown fueled their vision.

Mary has been a Granbury resident for 20 years, and Kevin for a decade, with their children and grandchildren also living in the area. This deep personal connection to Granbury shaped their decision to open the pub, believing the town deserved a distinctive establishment unlike anything else in the vicinity. Their goal was to create a place where guests can relax, socialize, and never feel rushed, much like the traditional pubs of Ireland.

 

The SBDC at Tarleton State University was instrumental in helping the McDonoughs create a business plan, develop an 8-year financial forecast, establish their LLC, obtain the appropriate licenses and permits from the state and secure financing for their project. Their SBDC counselor was invited to give the toast at their formal ground-breaking ceremony and then again at their one-year anniversary celebration. He also gave them their very first dollar of income, which is now in a frame on the wall behind the bar. Mary and Kevin have now been working regularly with the SBDC for over 4 years.

To achieve this authentic feel, The Pub McDonough boasts an architectural design featuring deep, dark woods, snug seating areas, and a commitment to friendly service that treats every guest like family. They are also actively working to foster connections with Irish organizations and cultural groups in North Texas, promoting Irish heritage within their local community.

A Menu Blending Irish Classics with Pub Favorites

The food and beverage offerings at The Pub McDonough are a delicious blend of traditional Irish fare and beloved pub classics, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate. Among other things, the menu features Fish & Chips, Shepherd's Pie and their own creation, an Irish Taco. Of course, no Irish pub would be complete without a diverse beverage selection, and The Pub McDonough offers a range of perfectly poured pints and signature cocktails, together with non-alcoholic options, as well.
